Prof. LIU Guokui from Argonne National Laboratory, USA and Prof. XIA Zhiguo from the University of Science & Technology Beijing visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials Chemistry and Physics on September 29th, 2014 and delivered seminar reports entitled “Theory and Applications of Rare Earth Luminescence——An Introduction to Crystal-Field and Vibronic Interactions” and “Structure Regulation and Property Study of Inorganic Rare Earth-Doped Luminescent Materials” respectively. Their reports are also the first two lectures of frontier course series of “Physics and Chemistry of Inorganic Luminescent Materials” given by oversea members of CAS Creative Research Team.

Prof. LIU Guokui is now a physicist and Principal Investigator of Chemistry Division of Argonne National Laboratory. He received his B.S in Physics from Wuhan University in 1977 and his Ph.D in Physics from Montana State University in 1988. He moved to Argonne National Laboratory in 1988 and was promoted to Assistant Physicist and Physicist in 1991 and 1996, respectively. His research interests include experimental and theoretical studies of electronic properties of lanthanides and actinides in condensed phases with an emphasis in modeling ion-ligand and electron-phonon interactions.

Prof. XIA Zhiguo received his master and bachelor degrees in Applied Chemistry from Beijing Technology and Business University in 2005 and 2002. He got his Ph.D  in Chemistry from Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University at 2008. His research interest focuses on the synthesis and luminescence property of inorganic phosphors.
