Prof. Ulrich Kortz from Jacobs University, Germany, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) during the period of May 23 to June 1, 2018. While staying at FJIRSM, Prof. Kortz delivered two lectures entitled ‘Polyoxometalate Chemistry: From Synthesis to a Unique Range of Properties’ and ‘Palladium, Platinum, and Gold: The Role of Noble Metals in Polyoxometalate Chemistry’. He also carried out detailed discussions with the researchers and students at FJIRSM. Prof. Ulrich Kortz received his Ph.D. in Chemistry at Georgetown University (Washington, DC) in 1995 under the supervision of Prof. Michael T. Pope. After postdoctoral studies in Florence (Italy) and Versailles (France) he started his independent academic career in 1997 at the American University of Beirut (Lebanon). In 2002, he joined International University Bremen (now Jacobs University Bremen) in Germany. His research interests include synthetic inorganic and organometallic chemistry, structural inorganic chemistry, discrete metal-oxides (polyoxometalates), hybrid organic-inorganic assemblies, study of catalytic, magnetic, electrochemical, medicinal, and supramolecular properties. He has already published more than 250 research papers, 3 book chapters and got 13 patents. His work has been cited over 10000 times (h-index: 57).
