Prof. Peter J. Stang, editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Chemical Society(JACS), visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry on May 12th, 2012. This is his second visit to FJIRSM since he came to the institute for the first time at the end of May, 2011. During his stay, Prof. Stang delivered a seminar report entitled “Chemical Publishing in the 21st Century: Perspectives of a JACS Editor”, introducing the paper submission, review and paper publishing policy of JACS, as well as his views on the high-level papers and SCI impact factors, and describing the development trend of chemical journals in the new century.
Meanwhile, a youth scholastic forum was held successfully during Prof. Stang’s visit. At the forum, three oral presentations were done including “Research progress on rare earth nano fluorescently labeled materials” by Prof. CHEN Xueyuan, “Exploration and discovery of novel and effectient inorganic functional materials” by Prof. CHEN Ling and “Design and synthesis of functional molecular sieve materials” by Prof. ZHANG Jian. Nearly 300 researchers and students took part in the forum. Prof. Stang sang high praise for the excellent research work done by the three above-mentioned young chemists, and detailed discussion was carried out about the relevant scientific topics.
