Dr. Rong Xu, Dr. Yanhui Yang and Dr. Fengwei Huo from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry on May 14th, 2013. While staying at FJIRSM, Dr. Xu delivered a seminar report entitled "Development of Nanomaterials for Water Treatment", Dr. Yang “Supported noble metallic nanoparticles as efficient catalysts for organic transformation” and Dr. Huo “Research and Application of Porous Coordination Polymer Composites”. They also carried out detailed discussion with the research staff of FJIRSM.
Dr. Rong Xu obtained her B.S. and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1998 and 2004. Then, she joined School of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2004. In 2010, she became an associate professor. In 2011, she was appointed as the Associate Chair (Research) of the school. Currently, she serves as the Associate Editor for Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology and she is also a member of the Editor Board for Energy Focus and ISRN nanotechnology. Her scientific interests include the development of nanomaterials and semiconductor photocatalysts for hydrogen production, CO2-reduction and water treatment as well as fabrication of nanostructural materials for biomedical applications. She has published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including JACS, ACS Nano, Adv Funct Mater, Chem Mater and Chem.Commun.
Dr. Yanhui Yang received his B.S. from Tsinghua University and Ph.D. from Yale University in 1998 and 2005, respectively. His doctoral advisor is Prof. Gary L. Haller. Dr. Yang joined School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (SCBE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore as an assistant professor in August 2005 right after he graduated from Yale. Dr. Yang’s primary research area is heterogeneous catalysis over metals and metal oxides. In particular, Dr. Yang is interested in understanding the fundamental catalytic concepts and phenomena using well-defined model catalyst and chemically probed reactions. Dr. Yang has published over 120 research articles, 2 book chapters, 3 US patents. Dr. Yang was promoted to be associate professor with tenure in chemical engineering in 2010.
Dr. Fengwei Huo received his B.S. from Jinin University and Ph.D. from Northwest University, USA in 1999 and 2009, respectively. His doctoral advisor is Prof. Chad A. Mirkin. Dr. Huo’s main research interests are about the research and application of porous coordination polymer composites and the development of high-throughput nano-patterning method. Dr. Huo has published over 30 research articles in some well-known scientific journals including Science and Nature Nanotechnology.
