Dr. Xiaoming Chen from the University of South Carolina, USA, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry on January 23rd, 2014. While staying at FJIRSM, Dr. Xiaoming Chen delivered a seminar report entitled “Research Progress on the New-generation Benzimidazole Proton Exchange Film”, and carried out detailed discussion about scientific issues with the research staff. Dr. Xiaoming Chen obtained his BSc at Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1996, Master of Engineering at the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999 and Ph.D at the University of South Carolina in 2005. At present, he is a research assistant professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of South Carolina. Dr. Chen's research interests are in engineering properties and structures of polymer composites. His research aims to use both experimental and numerical approaches to obtain a better understanding of processing-structure-property relationships in polymer composites. Dr. Chen is currently investigating the rheological and mechanical properties of high-temperature polymer electrolyte membranes for fuel cells and hydrogen electrolyzers.
