Brief introduction of FJIRSM

Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter(FJIRSM), Chinese Academy of Sciences was founded in 1960 by academician LU Jiaxi, a well-known scientist and educator in China. It is one of the excellent research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. After more than 50 years of development, it has got more than 230 important scientific and technological achievements and awards such as the three national science and technology awards and the special award for Scientific and Technological Progress of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It has become a comprehensive research base for structural chemistry, new materials and device integration and relevant application with international reputations.

In order to implement Haixi development strategy, on June 18, 2010, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fujian Provincial Government and the Fuzhou Municipal Government jointly held a signing and foundation laying ceremony for the establishment of Haixi Institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The institutes are constructed on the basis of Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter. There are five research institutes including Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matte, Institute of Materials Engineering, Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology Integration, Xiamen Institute of Rare Earth Materials, Quanzhou Institute of Equipment Manufacturing, and Across-Taiwan-Strait Science and Technology Exchange Center and Haixi Incubation Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

FJIRSM currently have more than 940 employees, including: 5 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 100 researcher professors, 152 associate professors, 19 winners of Distinguished Youth Fund, 6 winners of Ten Thousand Talents Program of P. R. China

FJIRSM offers doctoral and master's degree programs in three first-level disciplines of Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, and Control Science and Engineering. There are doctoral and master's programs in 10 majors of Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Physics and Chemistry, Materialogy, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Control Theory and Control Engineering, Detection Technology and Automatic Equipment, and Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems. There is 1 professional doctoral degree program in Materials and Chemical Engineering, and 3 master's degree training fields of Electronic information (including control engineering and optoelectronic information engineering), Materials and Chemical Engineering, and Biology and Medicine. At present, there are 234 supervisors, including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 116 doctoral supervisors and 118 master supervisors. Currently there are over 1800 students studying in FJIRSM, including 41 international students.

In recent years, FJIRSM has been continuously strengthening the construction and development of high-level technological innovation platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, the National Research Center for Optoelectronic Crystal Material Engineering Technology, the Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Material Chemistry and Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Key Laboratory of Coal-to-Ethylene Glycol and Related Technologies of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Key Laboratory of Design and Assembly of Functional Nanostructure, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

FJIRSM is focused on the strategic positioning of “focusing on original basic research, strengthening innovation, and promoting the transfer of achievements”, taking the advantages of subjects such as structural chemistry, catalytic chemistry, crystal materials, and laser technology to promote new materials and new technologies.

Based on the present and looking forward to the future, FJIRSM will face the frontiers of science and technology in the world, face the major needs of the country, and face the main battlefield of the national economy. It has become a first-class international research institution for material science and technology.
