Prof. LIANG Jingkui visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials Chemistry and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences on October 23rd, 2009. During his stay, Prof. LIANG delivered a seminar report entitled "Applications of X-rays in materials science" and carried out detailed discussion on the study and work experience with the research staff of FJIRSM.
As a former director of FJIRSM, Prof. LIANG is currently a professor and an associate director of academic committee of Beijing National Laboratory for Condensed Matter Physics, Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and an associate editor of “Chinese Physics B” and “Acta Physica Sinica”. Prof. LIANG has been dedicated to researches on synthesis, phase relations and crystal structures of inorganic solid functional materials based on methods of X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, and physical property measurements. Furthermore, study on the application of phase diagram in crystal growth is Prof. LIANG’s research interest. In 1993, Prof. LIANG was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Science for his excellent work in the fields of crystal structure of chemistry, materials science and solid-state physics. 

In Prof.LIANG's lecture, his simple but accurate introduction of the application of X-ray in materials science helped the researchers to have a more comprehensive and profounder understanding in the relevant fields. Prof. LIANG also shared his working experience of the development of temperature measurement devices used for special purpose, as well as high-TC oxide superconductors to emphasize the importance of basic knowledge.
