Prof. Gerd Meyer and Prof. Anja-Verena Mudring Visit FJIRSM

Prof. Gerd Meyer and Prof. Anja-Verena Mudring from Koln Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, Germany, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the Key Laboratory of Research on Chemistry and Physics of Optoelectronic Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) on July 29th, 2010. During their stay, Prof. Gerd Meyer and Prof. Anja-Verena Mudring delivered two seminar reports entitled “Structure and Bonding with Rare-Earth Cluster Complexes” and“Quantum-cutting lanthanide nanomaterials from ionic liquids”, and carried out detailed discussion with the research staff of FJIRSM.

Prof. Gerd Meyer got his Ph.D in Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Germany, in 1976 and did his postdoctoral job under the supervision of Prof. John Corbett  in Ames Laboratory and Iowa State University,USA,during the period of 1980-1982.He worked as a full-time professor in Universität Hannover, Germany, from 1988 to 1996,and  has been working as a full-time professor in Universität zu Köln since 1996.His main research interests include inorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry and rare earth chemistry. So far he has published more than 100 research papers in some internationally well-known periodicals such as Angew. Chem. and JACS. Meanwhile, he is also a member of the “Stiftungsrat” of the Bayer Science Foundation.

Prof. Anja Mudring earned her Ph.D under the supervision of Prof. Dr. M. Jansen in MPI Stuttgart, and did her postdoctoral job under the supervision of Prof. John Corbett in Ames Laboratory and Iowa State University, USA. She has been working as a full-time professor in Universität Bochum, Germany, since 2006.Her main research interests are organic and inorganic chemistry, solid state chemistry and quantum chemistry. Up to now, she has published a series of papers in some famous scientific journals including Angew. Chem. and JACS. Since 2010, she has been working as deputy chief editor of Crystal Growth & Design.
