Prof. Bryce S. Richards from Heriot-Watt University, UK, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on March 10th, 2011. During his stay, Prof. Richards delivered a seminar report entitled “Frequency conversion and its potential applications in solar cells” and carried out detailed discussion with the research staff of FJIRSM.
Prof. Bryce S. Richards is now a full-time professor with the College of Engineering and Physical Science, Heriot-Watt University, UK and the director of the Institute of Solar Energy, Scotland. During the period of 2002-2005, Prof. Richards, one of the internationally well-known pilot researchers in the field of photovoltaic technology, did his postdoctoral job under the supervision of Prof. M.A.Green at the University of New South Wales, Australia, engaged in the researches on optical frequency conversion used in photovoltaic technology. In 2006, he immigrated to England. So far he has published more than 50 research papers with high impact factors and edited two academic conference books. Thanks to his outstanding achievements in the research field of photovoltaic technology, he won two international awards including the International Engineering Awards by Daimler – Chrysler/ UNESCO, Berlin in 2005 and the World Energy Award, Australia in 2003. Prof. Richards was one of the editors for the scholastic periodical with its name of Progress in Photovoltaics from 2006 to 2009. At present, he is one of the organizers and academic members of some international conferences on solar energy.
