Prof. Leroy Cronin from the University of Glasgow, UK, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry on November 22nd, 2011. During his stay, Prof. Cronin delivered a seminar report entitled “Engineering electron transfer reactions in metal oxide cages” and carried out detailed discussion with the research staff of FJIRSM.
Prof. Leroy Cronin is now a professor of chemistry in the School of Chemistry at the University of Glasgow, UK. In 2009, he was elected fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh Sciences. His main research interests include the assembly of functional nanoscale polyoxometalate clusters, new molecular structure, functional self-assembly, and functional surface non-equilibrium supramolecular assembly, self-growth, artificial life / cell and simple organic and coordination chemistry of nano- and micron-sized chemical system. Up to now, Prof. Cronin has published more than 220 research papers on some internationally well-known journals including Science, Nature Chemistry, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed, J. Am. Chem. Soc. and Chem. Soc. Rev. Meanwhile, Prof. Cronin has won over 40 domestic and overseas awards including the finalist and winner(silver medal) of the Young European Chemists Award in 2006, Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2007, Morino Foundation Prize, Japan, in 2008 and the Royal Society-Wolfson Research Merit Award in 2009.
