Prof. HE Zhen from the University of Virginia Tech, USA,visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) at the invitation of the CAS Key Laboratory of Design and Assembly of Functional Nanostructures and delivered a seminar report entitled “Resource Recovery from Wastewater Using Bioelectrochemical Systems: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” on June 21, 2018. He carried out deep discussion with the research staff at FJIRSM.

Prof. HE Zhen, received his B. S. in the Dept. of Environmental Engineering Environmental Engineering of Tongji University in 2000, and received his M. S. in Technical University of Denmark and Ph. D in Washington University in St Louis. Then he did a two-year post-doctoral research at the University of Southern California. In 2009, he started independent research at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee as an assistant professor. In 2013, he transferred to the University of Virginia Tech as an associate professor (tenured) and promoted to full professor in 2017. Prof. HE is interested in the fields of sewage biological treatment, resource recovery, microbiological electrochemical systems, and membrane treatment technologies. Prof. HE has authored or co-authored over 170 publications which have been cited 9000 times with H index of 47. He won the Walter l. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize from the American Civil Society in 2018.
