Prof. David W. Lupton from Monash University, Australia, visits Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter(FJIRSM), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structure Chemistry on Nov. 8th, 2018. During his stay, Prof. Lupton delivered a seminar report entitled “Enantioselective N-Heterocyclic Carbene Catalysis with Normal and Reverse Polarity Intermediates”. In his talk, Prof. David W. Lupton gave an overview of his recent progress in enantioselective NHC catalysis, particularly in normal polarity NHC catalysis and polarity inversion outside of the acyl anion. Active discussion was conducted with the research staff at FJIRSM.

Prof. David W. Lupton obtained his PhD in Australian National University in 2005 under the guidance of Prof. Martin G. Banwell. After that, he had the honor of working with Prof. Barry M. Trost at Stanford University as a postdoctoral associate in the field of organic chemistry. In 2007, he joined the Department of Chemistry at Monash University as a lecturer. He was promoted to associate professor of chemistry in 2015, and full professor in 2018. His research program mainly focuses on the discovery of catalytic methodologies that enable the preparation of complex molecular structures. Prof. Lupton is now Co-Director and Theme Leader (Organocatalysis) of Monash Catalysis Centre, Member of Royal Australian Chemical Institute, and Member of Royal Society of Chemistry.
