Prof. KONG Wei from Oregon State University, USA, Visits FJIRSM

Prof. KONG Wei from Oregon State University, USA, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials Chemistry and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry on June 10th, 2009. During her stay, Prof. KONG delivered a seminar report entitled "Photodynamics of nucleic acid bases and their water complexes" and carried out detailed discussion with the research staff of FJIRSM. Prof. KONG Wei got her Ph.D at University of Waterloo in 1993 and did her postdoctorate work at Cornell University from 1993 to 1995. Her main research interest is reaction mechanisms of gas phase biological molecules and nanomaterials by using spectroscopic technique. Prof. KONG does the researches on molecular reaction dynamics by taking advantage of gaseous and liquid small-molecule excited-state spectroscopy, reveals the response to ultraviolet radiation of nucleic acid bases and their water complexes, and explores the origin of nucleic acids. Her research method provides a good reference for the researches on spectroscopy and small-molecule chemical reaction at FJIRSM.
