Prof. ZHENG Zhiping from University of Arizona, USA, Prof. LONG Deliang from University of Glasgow, UK and Prof. REN Tong from Purdue University, USA,paid a visit to Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry in October, 2009. Prof. Long delivered a seminar report entitled “The New Road to the New Polyoxometallates”;Prof. Zheng delivered a seminar report entitled “New Directions in Metal Cluster Chemistry – From Building Blocks for Supramolecular Construction to Platforms for Novel Chemical Transformations and Materials”; and Prof. REN Tong made a speech with the title “Covalent Bond Formation Reactions at the Periphery of Inorganic Building Blocks”. Detailed discussion was carried out with the research staff of FJIRSM after the reports. Prof. ZHENG Zhiping got his Ph.D at the University of California, Los Angeles(UCLA) in 1995. His main research interests are coordination and cluster chemistry. He has published many research papers in Nature Mater.,Nature Nanotechnology,Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.,J. Am. Chem. Soc.,Acc. Chem. Res.,Chem. Comm., Inorg. Chem., etc. At present, Prof. Zheng is the theme editor of Crystal Growth and Design and one of the members of the editorial board for the Journal of Rare Earth. Prof. LONG Deliang got his Ph.D at Nanjing University. Now he is the Senior Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow, UK. His research area focuses on polyoxometalate chemistry. Up to now, Prof. Long has published more than 100 research papers in Angew Chem. Int. Ed.,J. Am. Chem. Soc., Chem. Eur. J., Acc. Chem. Res. Chem. Commun., Dalton, Inorg. Chem., etc. Prof. REN Tong got his Ph.D at Texas A&M University in 1990 and did his postdoctorate work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1991 to 1993. He is interested in biomimetic chemistry of organophosphorous compounds, including functional models of organophosphorous hydrolases and recognition of phosphate containing metabolites. Prof.REN Tong has already published many influential research papers in some world-known scientific periodicals such as Chem. Rev. , Nano Lett , Chem. Eur. J. and Organometallics.
