International Workshop on Computational Materials Science Held in FJIRSM |

|
International Workshop on Computational Materials Science was held successfully at Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter(FJIRSM) from November 16th to 18th, 2009. At the opening ceremony, Prof. Maochun Hong, director of FJIRSM, on behalf of our institute, extended his warmest greeting and made a brief introduction of FJIRSM to all the participants. A total of more than 60 scholars including 7 foreign professors took part in the workshop. The seven foreign scholars are respectively Prof. Ravindra Pandey from Michigan Technological University, USA；Prof. Victor Luaña from University of Oviedo, Spain, Prof. Roberto Orlando from University of Torino, Italy；Prof. Sourav Pal, Head of Physical Chemistry Division and Center for Materials Characterisation, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India；Prof. Rajeev Ahuja from Uppsala University, Sweden；Prof. Ras B. Pandey from University of Southern Mississippi, USA；Dr. V. Sundararajan, coordinator of the scientific and Engineering Computing Group, India.
This workshop was advocated jointly by Chinese and foreign scholars engaged in researches on computational material science. A total of 7 seminar reports were done at the meeting. The scientists from home and abroad deepened their bilateral understanding and friendship while enjoying academic intercourse at the meeting. At the closing ceremony arranged on November 18, 2009, both Prof. Wendan Cheng on behalf of the Chinese participants and Prof. Victor Luaña on behalf of the foreign participants made summary speeches. The two speakers sang high praise for the workshop and reached an agreement that this face-to-face communication is fruitful and of great significance.
