Dr. CHEN Chengyi from Merck & Co., Inc., USA, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry on November 7th, 2011. During his stay, Dr. CHEN Chengyi delivered a seminar report entitled“Asymmetric syntheses for contemporary drug discovery and development”and carried out detailed discussion with the research staff of FJIRSM.

Dr. CHEN Chengyi got his B.S at the Department of Chemistry, Xiamen University in 1984, and obtained his Ph.D at Ohio State University, USA, in 1990. In the same year he entered Merck & Co., Inc.. He is now one of the Distinguished Senior Investigators with Merck & Co., Inc.. Dr. Chen devoted himself to the researches on pharmaceutical process chemistry and became a scholar of great attainments in the field of process chemistry. He not only succeeded in applying several useful research results directly to the pharmaceutical industry, but also made good achievements in basic researches. So far Dr. Chen has published more than 70 research papers on some top international scholastic periodicals including Journal of the American Chemical Society and Angewandte Chemie International Edition.
