Prof. Lutz Ackermann Visits FJIRSM

Prof. Lutz Ackermann from University of Göttingen, Germany, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry on April 23rd, 2015. While staying at FJIRSM, Prof. Lutz Ackermann delivered a seminar report entitled “Ru-catalyzed C-H bond activation and beyond”, and carried out detailed discussion with the research staff at FJIRSM.

Prof. Lutz Ackermann studied Chemistry at University of Kiel and performed his master thesis with Prof. Dr. J. Mattay. He was awarded Ph.D. in 2001 supervised by Prof. Dr. A. Fuerstner at the Max Planck Institute, and pursued postdoctoral research with Prof. Dr. R. G. Bergman at UC Berkeley. He began his professional career as an industrial chemist at University of Munich in 2003. Since 2007, he is full professor of organic chemistry at the University of Göttingen. Prof. Lutz Ackermann has authored more than 160 peer-reviewed publications, which have been cited more than 8000 times. He was honored by Web of Science as ISI Highly Cited Researcher. Other awards include 2011 the AstraZeneca Excellence in Chemistry Award, 2009 the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Visiting Professor Fellowship, 2008 the Goering Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, 2007 ADUC award, 2006 ORCHEM award and 2004 Thieme Journal Award. His research is devoted to the development of environmentally benign and economically sound processes of importance to organic synthesis.
