Prof. Andreas Terfort from Frankfurt University, Germany, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry on November 18th, 2015. While staying at FJIRSM, Prof. Andreas Terfort delivered a seminar report entitled “Thin Layers - Big Effects: Self-Assembled Monolayers”, and carried out detailed discussion with the research staffs at FJIRSM.

Prof. Terfort gained his Doctoral degree in Regensburg University, and did his post-doctor research in Harvard University in Prof. George Whitesides’s group. Then he started his own research group in Hamburg University in 1996. In 2004, he moved to Bochum University, and 2 years later, in Marburg University. Since 2008, he was promoted to W3 Professor in Frankfurt University. Now, Prof. Terfort is the vice-director of the Institute of Inorganic and analytical chemistry at Goethe-University Frankfurt. He holds the Chair for surface chemistry. Prof. Terfort’s research areas include surfaces chemistry, porous materials, electrochemistry, biochemistry, molecular electronics. Particularly, his group works on the synthesis, mechanism and applications of self-assembled monolayers. He has published more than 130 peer-reviewed papers, and the H-index is 34.
