The 5^th China-Japan Symposium on Crystal Growth and Technology(CJSCGT), sponsored jointly by the Crystal Growth Branch of Chinese Ceramic Society and Japanese Crystal Growth Society, was held at Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM), Chinese Academy of Sciences on Nov. 21^st, 2016.

The China-Japan Symposium on Crystal Growth and Technology was initially organized by esteemed Chinese and Japanese Crystal scientists: Academician JIANG Minhua from Shandong University, Academician MIN Naiben from Nanjing University and Prof. Ogawa, Chairman of Japanese Crystal Growth Society. And the serial symposium is held every two years.

Over forty Chinese and Japanese scholars attended the symposium. Prof. WANG Jiyao made the opening remark, extending his warmest greetings and most cordial welcome to all the participants present at this symposium. The participants made a total of 21 oral presentations reporting their recent progress in the fields of non-linear optical crystals, laser crystals, flexible materials, ferroelectric and magnetoelectric crystals, LED luminescent materials and film materials. Hot discussion was carried out on the basic theory and new technology of crystal material design and growth. Finally, Prof. HU Zhanggui from Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, made the closing remark. He sang high praise for the achievement of this symposium and announced that the 6th China-Japan Symposium on Crystal Growth and Technology will be held in Osaka, Japan in 2018.
