Prof. Kiyoyuki Terakura from the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry on November 25th, 2016. During his stay at FJIRSM, Prof. Terakura gave a talk entitled “Materials Research by Information Integration: from analysis-type research to exploration-type one. He also showed several examples in his recent research employing machine learning methods, such as thermoelectric materials, secondary battery materials and permanent magnet materials design.

Kiyoyuki Terakura is a professor at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) and the National Institute of Industrial Advanced Science and Technology (AIST). He was also a professor at the University of Tokyo and Tokyo Institute of Technology. He received his BS degree and PhD degree at the University of Tokyo and the University of Osaka, respectively. He had ever worked as a researcher at the University of Cambridge in UK and IBM Company in US. He is an expert in first principles simulations. He developed several first principles simulation codes, and he also initiated ‘Asian Workshop on First-Principles Electronic Structure Calculations’ in 1998. He published more than 300 papers in high quality journals (including Science, Nature, PRL and JACS) with H-index of 64.
