The 11th Japan-China Joint Symposium on Metal Cluster Compounds (JCSMCC) was held successfully in Nagoya, Japan, from October 7 to 10, 2017.

On the morning of October 8, Prof. Kentaro Tanaka, Chairman of Japanese Local Organizing Committee, made the opening remark showing a warm-hearted hospitality to all Chinese participants. Prof. CAO Rong also gave a speech at the opening ceremony reviewing the successful history of this serial conference. A total of 32 Chinese delegates from 20 universities or institutes of China and more than 40 Japanese delegates from many outstanding universities or institutes of Japan took part in the symposium.

This symposium is one of the serial conferences on metal cluster compounds between China and Japan advocated jointly by the late famous chemists Prof. LU Jiaxi and Prof. Kazuo Saito. Up to now, 11 conferences have been held successfully since the first symposium in Okazaki, 1991. A total of 76 seminar reports were done during the 11th symposium, including 4 plenary lectures and 72 invited lectures, making this symposium the largest one to date. The chemists from China and Japan have carried out fruitful discussions on the researches on transition metal cluster chemistry, coordination and supramolecular chemistry, nano-chemistry and functional hybrid materials. Meanwhile, they also deepened their bilateral understanding and friendship while enjoying academic intercourse at the symposium.

At the closing ceremony of the symposium on October 10, 2017, both Prof.ZHANG Jian on behalf of the Chinese participants and Prof. Kentaro Tanaka on behalf of the Japanese participants made summary speeches. During the symposium, the organizing committee declared that the 12th China-Japan Joint Symposium on Metal Cluster Compounds would be held in Suzhou, China, 2019. Prof. LANG Jianping from Soochow University gave an introduction to his university and the city of Suzhou.
