Dr. John Lemmon from the National Institute of Clean and Low-Carbon Energy (NICE), was invited to give a speech titled “A Holistic and Innovative Approach Towards a Low Carbon, Multi-Energy Distributed Grid” on June 1, 2018. The intensive study of distributed energy technologies was introduced in his speech: system development and material research for energy conversion and storage; and very active discussion was conducted with related researchers at FJIRSM. Dr. John Lemmon is leading in the development of new clean energy technologies that will transform the electricity business into a new highly distributed grid that combines both power and chemical generation and distribution. His platform is broadly focused across energy storage materials (High power Li-ion, Flow Batteries, CO2 Conversion), systems design, and controls that include new topologies and advanced algorithms supported by real time communication and data analysis toward the advent of the Energy Internet. Prior to his current position at NICE, Dr. Lemmon was a program director for the US Department of Energy (DOE) at Advanced Research Program Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). Dr. Lemmon received a PhD in inorganic chemistry from Oregon State University USA where his research focused on nano-structured materials and electrochemical properties for energy storage. He has authored 2 book chapters and over 100 publications in high level international journals that include a single author publication in Nature and co-author of several highly citied grid storage reviews. Dr. Lemmon has co-organized many symposiums, he has also been a prolific inventor with 120 patent applications and over 60 US granted patents that includes a 100 R&D award in lithium ion battery technology.
