Prof. Masahiro Yamashita from Tohoku University, Japan, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter(FJIRSM) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry on October 8, 2018 . During his stay, Prof. Yamashita gave a speech entitled “New Quantum Molecular Spintronics Based on Single-Molecule Magnets: Kondo Effect, Single-Molecule Memory, Spin Qubits, and Rabi Nutation” . Active discussion was conducted with the research staff at FJIRSM.

Prof. Masahiro Yamashita got his Ph.D at Kyushu University, Japan in 1982, and did his JSPS Post Doctorate job at the Institute for Molecular Science in 1983. In 1987, he moved to Nagoya University as an associate professor. During the period of 1989-1990, he worked as a visiting professor at the University College London, UK. In the year of 2004, he became a full-time professor at Tohoku University. His main research interests include nano-science of advanced metal complexes, quantum molecular spintronics based on single molecule magnets and nano-wire metal complexes with strong electron-correlations. So far Prof. Yamashita has got many awards including the Award of Inoue Scientific Foundation in 2002, the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Creative Work for 2005, and Award of Japan Society of Coordination Chemistry in 2014.
