Prof. P. Shiv Halasyamani from University of Houston, USA, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM),Chinese Academy of Sciences on May 7th, 2019. During his stay, Prof. Halasyamani delivered two speeches entitled “New (Deep) Ultraviolet NLO Materials: Design and Synthesis to Applications” and “Tips for Scholarly Publishing”. His professional and inspirational talks aroused the broad attention of the audience. Interactive discussion was carried out between the attendees. 

Prof. Halasyamani is the Associate Editor of the ACS Journal Inorganic Chemistry. In 1996, he completed his Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. Kenneth R. Poeppelmeier at Northwestern University,USA. From 1997-1999, he was a post-doctoral associate and later a Junior Research Fellow (Christ Church College) at Oxford University,UK. He was hired as an Assistant Professor at the University of Houston in 1999, was promoted with tenure to Associate Professor in 2005 and to Full Professor in 2010. During his academic career, Prof. Halasyamani has won a number of awards. These include the ExxonMobil Solid State Award, Beckman Young Investigator, High-End Foreign Experts Project Award - China, and the Roy-Somiya Award: International Solvothermal and Hydrothermal Association. Prof. Halasyamani's research involves the design, synthesis, crystal growth, characterization, and structure-properties of functional inorganic solid-state materials. Prof. Halasyamani has published over 200 papers with an h-index of 53 and over 9000 citations.
