Prof. HONG Maochun

Introduction

Established in 1996, professor Hong’s research group is one of the earliest groups that have been engaged in the research of inorganic functional materials. The group conducted the pioneer work to apply coordination chemistry in crystal engineering and successfully utilized the functional building units to synthesize the designed target crystalline materials. In the investigation of nanometer-scale cages and capsules, our group has extensively explored the properties of supramolecules in some scientifically interesting and commercially attractive reactions.  Modification of the organic ligands through the adjustment of their electronic and steric properties to make them more effective for specific reactions is carried out. The syntheses, structural characterization, and functional studies of metal inorganic particles and nanometer-scale metallosupramolecules including nano-wire, nano-cages, nano-tube, macrocycles, and nano-clusters are involved.

Our current research interests mainly focus on crystal design and growth, functional materials and devices, nano-catalytic materials, as well as their industrialization in the fields of both crystal engineering and nano-materials.

Prof. Maochun Hong graduated from Fuzhou University in 1978 and received his M.Sc. degree from Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), in 1981. He was a visiting scientist at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Newcastle in 1992-1993. He worked as a JSPS visiting professor from 1997 to 1999 at Nagoya University, where he received his Ph. D degree. He was elected a Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003 and elected a Fellow of the Academy of Science for the Developing World (TWAS) in 2005. He successively served as the director of  FJIRSM from 2000 to 2013 and an associate editor of Crystal Growth & Design from 2006 to 2018. At the present, he is a professor and the academic director of FJIRSM.
